100% Vegetarian Kitchen

Vegetarian Restaurant in Southampton

Every dish is vegetarian, so the choice is the whole menu and not a short list at the back.

Padharo at 100-102 East Street is a 100% vegetarian Indian restaurant in Southampton city centre. All 64 dishes across the menu are vegetarian, most are vegan, and many are gluten-free. Padharo won Vegetarian Restaurant of the Year at the 2024 English Curry Awards, and Indian Restaurant of the Year for the South of England at the 2025 Nation’s Curry Awards.

The cooking comes from family recipes from Bhavnagar in Gujarat, one of the most vegetarian regions in India, alongside dishes from across the country. Main dishes run from £10.95 to £13.45. Open Tuesday to Thursday from 5pm, and from midday Friday to Sunday. Closed Mondays.

How the menu works

The whole menu is the vegetarian section

In most Indian restaurants a vegetarian gets a short list at the back of the menu, usually the same handful of dishes. Here the tandoor, the biryanis, the curries, the dosas and the street food are all vegetarian, so the choice is the entire menu rather than a corner of it.

Meat eaters enjoy it too

Most people who eat here are not vegetarian. The menu is built on Gujarati and pan-Indian cooking rather than imitations of meat dishes, so nothing tastes like a substitute for something else. When someone at the table does not eat meat, this is usually the easiest booking to agree on.

  • Dishes named after meat are plant-based: Chick’n, Prawn Koliwada, Konkan Prawn Curry. Nothing on the premises is meat or fish.
  • Sharing platters and a tandoor grill platter for the table, at £14.95 and £17.95.
  • Spice levels adjusted on request, and vegan or gluten-free versions of most dishes. Tell your server when you sit down.

Common questions

Vegetarian dining FAQs

Is there a vegetarian restaurant in Southampton?

Yes. Padharo at 100-102 East Street, Southampton SO14 3HH is a 100% vegetarian Indian restaurant in the city centre. Every one of the 64 dishes on the menu is vegetarian, so there is no separate vegetarian section to choose from. Padharo won Vegetarian Restaurant of the Year at the 2024 English Curry Awards and Indian Restaurant of the Year for the South of England at the 2025 Nation’s Curry Awards.

Is Padharo entirely vegetarian?

Yes. The kitchen is entirely vegetarian and no meat or fish is cooked on the premises. Some dishes carry meat names such as Chick’n or Prawn, and those are plant-based. Dairy is used in a minority of dishes, for example paneer, ghee and yoghurt, and those are labelled so vegans can avoid them.

What vegetarian dishes does Padharo serve?

The menu runs to 64 dishes across 12 sections: nibbles, street food, chaat, tandoor, main curries, Indo-Chinese, rice, daals and companions, dosas, naan, sides and desserts. Main dishes run from £10.95 to £13.45. Examples include Paneer Tikka (£10.95), Padharo Signature (£13.45), Butter Masala (£12.95), Hyderabadi Biryani (£12.95), Chilli Paneer Dosa (£11.95) and Gulab Jamun (£5.95).

Will people who eat meat enjoy Padharo?

Most guests at Padharo are not vegetarian. The menu is built around Gujarati and pan-Indian cooking rather than meat substitutes, so dishes stand on their own, and the tandoor, biryani and curry sections give a full meal to anyone who normally orders meat. It is a practical choice for a mixed group where only one person is vegetarian.

Does Padharo cater for vegans and gluten-free diners as well?

Yes. Most of the menu is vegan or can be made vegan, and many dishes are gluten-free, including the dosas, which are made from a rice and lentil batter. Every dish is labelled on the menu for vegan and gluten-free. The kitchen is shared, so tell your server about any allergy when you arrive.
